Termine angloamericano che indica l'effetto leva (leverage = forza sviluppata da una leva). Il leverage afferma che ad un dato rendimento del capitale complessivo (capitale proprio e capitale di terzi) con crescente finanziamento esterno, il rendimento del capitale proprio aumenta se il tasso d'interesse per il capitale di terzi è al di sotto del rendimento del capitale complessivo. Si parla di leverage anche per i certificati di opzione. In questo caso, il leverage agisce a favore di un aumento di corso sproporzionato del certificato di opzione rispetto al corso delle azioni.
