English to Italian translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Automation & Robotics / Instructions manual
English term or phrase: Alvin, Douglas
Alvin, Douglas
I need to localize (EN>IT) these two names. According to Webster’s dictionary Alvin, from Old English words meaning "friend" or "elf". Douglas, from a Scottish word meaning "black water". This is the best I could come up with: Alvin = Fedele; Douglas = Nereo. Any better solution?

Explanation:
First, does the name have to be translated? Can't you leave it as it is?
Italian names are becoming more international......
and when Ninja turtles can have Italian names then maybe Italian Robots can have non-ltalian names.

Then, is the meaning or the sound of the word the baisis for translation?

If it's the meaning then your names are fine, otherwise here are some suggestions - they are accepted Italian names :
Alvise and Dagoberto
