The idea behind this model is that users undertake tasks, such as navigating and manipulating objects with specific intentions and under specific contexts. Interaction techniques are often tuned towards one specific context, such as precision manipulation and do not adequately support other contexts, such as rapid manipulation. Normally users need to specify a given interaction technique to use depending on their intentions. Unfortunately, forcing the user to explicitly choose between a large set of techniques creates an awkward experience and reduces efficiency. Intent Driven Interaction offers another solution; instead of forcing the user to explicitly specify an interaction mode, specific observable behaviors are identified which can indicate the user’s intentions implicitly, invoking the appropriate interaction technique for the current task and context."
