Di solito rimane "bin". Probabilmente il contesto tratta di "garbage collection" per il recupero di spazio-dati.
Si tratta di una sorta di unità base per sistemare le aree dati. Il concetto dovrebbe essere simile a quello del container per lo smistamento merci.
Talvolta "bin" si trova con il significato di "sottogruppo", "classe", "vassoio" (nel caso dei fascicolatori per le fotocopiatrici).

Un gruppo o gamma di cifre viene chiamato spesso un "tranche", che è la parola francese per "slice" (inglese) cioè fetta. In inglese si usa "tranche" spesso. Mi raccomando che usi una traduzione di "bin" (e.g. cesto) ma per la prima volta spieghi tra parentesi che equivale a "tranche" (trancia?)
