English term or phrase: nuts and raisins
On the opening night 3 shows were presented 8, 10 and 12 pm. Thereafter we had two shows at 8 and 10 pm. Each week and ad was placed inb the Village Voice. The cost of the ad and additional expenses such as nuts and raisins, cleaning supplies, etc. was subtracted from the gate and then the remainder was split 3 ways.

17 mins

Explanation:
It is certainly literal here. The discussion is about the final revenue of a (possibly theater) show - the expenses were:
ad placement
nuts and raisins (I'm assuming snacks for the show which may have been included in the ticket price)
cleaning supplies
(etc)

These expenses were deducted from the final revenue, then divided into 3 equal portions (maybe for three people or maybe to give a per-show final revenue).
