In questo caso, diffuses vuol dire che riduce la densita', annacqua, abbassa la percentuale. Si puo' perfino usare per questioni di umore: io ho trovato la frase: "Please go out and diffuse the atmosphere" in una situazione in cui il protagonista veniva invitato a entrare in un posto dove c'era un'atmosfera pesante tra i presenti, con l'idea che la sua presenza li avrebbe distratti e calmati, riducendo la tensione.
