English term or phrase: make-up

Non trovo altra traduzione che "trucco", ma siccome il tema del libro sono i trucchi magici, il termine viene giù usato e strausato fino alla nausea in tutto il libro e vorrei evitarlo; e vorrei come al solito evitare l'inglese. Ho qualche via d'uscita?
La frase che segue commenta l'illusione visiva data dal confronto fra due foto di volti.
"The only difference between these two faces is their degree of
contrast. Yet one appears female and the other male. That’s because
female faces tend to have more contrast between the eye and mouth
(think how makeup exaggerates these features) and the rest of the
face than males. Richard Russell, the Harvard University neuroscientist
who created the illusion, has found that increasing the contrast of
a face (more makeup!) makes it more feminine. Conversely, reducing
contrast makes it look more masculine."

Asker: bello belletto :-), mi piace ma suona effettivamente un po' antico.... cerone troppo pesante, si tratta proprio solo di fard e mascara, per le ombreggiature...già, potrei nominare ombretto e mascara: ora guardo

Asker: Sì, solo che i cosmetici mi fanno pensare più (anche se non solo) alle creme idratanti ecc, mentre qui si tratta esclusivamente di accentuazione dei contrasti, quindi proprio di "trucco" nel senso di fard, mascara....ecc
