E' un commento sulla pagella di un bambino: "his reading is improving but he does still sound out many words."
Esiste una parola che renda il significato in italiano? Grazie!

Explanation:
"sound out" in inglese significa pronunciare la parola, spezzettandola in base alle unità fonetiche. Riguarda una difficoltà nella lettura che, i bambini specialmente, hanno nel pronunciare correttamente le parole inglesi.

Questo perchè, differentemente dall'italiano, i segni scritti molto spesso non corrispondono al suono effettivo di quella parola. Diciamo insomma che l'inglese non si legge come si scrive. A mio parere perciò, anche se in italiano non abbiamo questo problema, la parola che più si avvicina alla situazione di difficoltà di pronuncia è appunto "sillabare":
