Non sono esperta del sistema scolastico americano, quindi non so come rendere in italiano la parte finale della descrizione di questa persona: come devo intendere 'credit' e 'short'?

"You would never have guessed by her quietness and her very simple way of life that she was only a credit or two short of a doctorate in education".

neutral  MicB: traduzione letterale: "nessuno avrebbe creduto....che le mancassero solo un paio di crediti al dottorato ....". Però credo che in Italia, nei dottorati non si usino nè crediti né esami, forse si può dire "...le mancasse pochissimo al dottorato..."
