As there is not really any context it is difficult to be precise, however I believe the phrase you are looking for is exam credit or exam credits, in the sense that knowledge or achievements elsewhere would count towards part of a course or degree.

I am not sure whether this would fit in with the context of your translation.

Sorry, you must excuse the rather obvious explanation however I was under the impression you were looking for a term in English as you had put the language pair as Italian > English.

Iniziamo dai ‘numeri’. In una laurea triennale (di I livello) occorre accumulare ***180 crediti formativi universitari***, ma ogni università, in base alla propria autonomia, decide come ripartirli anno per anno e materia per materia. Diciamo che, in media: o sono circa ***60 CFU all’anno***. Normalmente, l’ultimo anno prevede meno esami, ma in più c’e’ il tirocinio e la tesi, comunque attributari di crediti formativi; ***ogni esame ‘pesa’ circa 10 CFU***, se gli esami annuali massimi da dare in tre anni sono 20 (come stabilito dalla recente Riforma Gelmini).

I crediti corrispondenti a ciascuna attività formativa sono acquisiti dallo studente con il superamento dell'esame o di altra forma di verifica del profitto prevista dal regolamento didattico, fermo restando che la valutazione del profitto è effettuata con le modalità di cui all'articolo 10, comma 4, lettera d).
