English term or phrase: (to) switch
Normal case (no short-circuit):

Umax = USolenoid valve + UShunt = 26.8 V = 21 V + 5.8 V

The voltage UShunt drops also at protective circuit of zener diode and series.

The zener diode doesn't switch at 5.8 V, i.e. the voltage drop of 5.8 V at the shunt is the same as at the analog input.

Potrebbe essere "commuta"?

commutare/condurre
Explanation:

= conduct

Explanation:
This is the English word that should have been there. The current characteristic of a Zener diode has two different parts - one in which the diode does not conduct and one in which it does - depending on the magnitude of the voltage applied. It is said that the diode "switches" between the two modes when it starts conducting.

non inizia a condurre/non si innesca

Explanation:
