The unit is designed to maximise the production of middle distillate while minimising the production of
naphtha and optimising the hydrogen consumption. Any unconverted feed is recycled to achieve a
conversion rate of approximately 98% on feed. A bleed stream of unconverted feed of approximately 2
wt% is sent to the Visbreaker/Thermal Gasoil Cracking Unit for further conversion.
Fresh feed is mixed with recycled hydrogen rich gas, heated and fed to the first hydrocracking reactor.
The reactor effluent is separated, with the gas recycled and the liquid first stripped to remove the bulk
of the light ends, hydrogen sulphide and ammonia, and then fractionated to raw product streams and
unconverted oil. Make-up hydrogen at a purity of 99.5% mol is added to the recycle gas to
compensate for the hydrogen consumed during the reaction and dissolution losses.
The reactors contain a guard bed, demetalisation, hydrotreating and hydrocracking sections. In the
CLG process, a two stage reaction scheme is presented. Only the fresh feed is processed through
the first reactor and only the recycle unconverted oil is processed through the second reactor. The
effluents from both reactors are then combined to the hot high pressure separator. The units operate
at approximately 160 barg at the HP separator. |
