English term or phrase: got the ball rolling
Mr. Bernanke got the ball rolling in the US on June 4th, when emphasizing the attention that the FED was intending to pay to the effects of US dollar variations on inflation expectations going forward. Their intentions were revealed and the president of the New York FED twisted the knife a week later, stating that the fight against inflationary risks would require a more restrictive monetary policy. On the 25th, the FOMC met the expectations of the market by maintaining its rates. It delivered a speech where it showed a stable level of awareness regarding both the inflation outlooks and the amount of risks carried by growth.
