An attempt by a non-native Italian speaker to add dimensions to the concept. "come into its own" I think has to do with inheritance: to come into one's own is to finally acquire the estate (or cultural capital) which has been owed to one. An intellectual movement "coming into its own" would mean its taking the position and power in wider intellectual thought which the writer believes is inherent in it.
