English term or phrase: whirlybirds

"He remembered seeing children playing with toy whirlybirds: by pulling a string, a propeller would be made to rise freely into the air."

elicotteri giocattolo

Explanation:
Ciao Luisa, ritengo tu abbia ragione a tradurlo come da te proposto.

The noun whirlybird has 1 sense.

1. helicopter, chopper, whirlybird, eggbeater
(an aircraft without wings that obtains its lift from the rotation of overhead blades)
