Bus/Financial - Journalism / article about recession in the UK
English term or phrase: national accounts
In this article: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/92011204-e988-11dd-9535-0000779fd2...

The European Commission predicts that the annual rate of growth for 2009 will be a negative 2.8 per cent, the worst performance in any year since ***national accounts*** were first compiled after the second world war.

What are "national accounts" here? And what does "compile" mean in this context?
Thanks!

conti economici nazionali / contabilità nazionale
Explanation:
Ciao Floriana

si tratta dei conti economici nazionali, quelli che vengono prodotti annualmente per stimare il PIL e le sue componenti (consumo, investimento, spesa pubblica, esportazioni nette). "Compile", qui, significa redigere.
