I was never satisfied and could never accept that the reason was good enough other than you had, during my leave back in the UK, decided to replace me with Ivan.
Non capisco se intende che l'unica ragione per lui valida è la sua (other than you had). Ma non ha molto senso perchè non dice qual è la sua.

Il senso ora sembra chiaro - solo un tentativo di 'rendere' la struttura della frase conservando 'other than':
