I'd need confirmation of my italian rendering of "film" within the contest and if possible a suggestion to shorten my draft translation. Moreover I know that in medical field "film" is translated with the italian "lastra" (I've searched kudoz terms) but I'm not sure and do not believe it works is my context. TIA

Sentence:
Polarisation is a film that covers the surface of the lens, filtering out all light except ones that are aligned with that film, at least four layers are usual.

Translation draft:

E’ definita polarizzazione il/la film/pellicola (filtri polarizzanti) che ricopre la superficie della lente permettendo di filtrare i raggi luminosi salvo quelli che si allineano al/alla film/pellicola stesso/a (ossia quelli che permettono l’oscillazione del campo elettrico lungo la direzione ad esso ortogonale selezionando la polarizzazione ad esso parallela); solitamente si usa un/a film/pellicola o filtro polarizzante di almeno quattro strati.

My above translation draft needs to be shortened and more coincise. Nothing else comes to my mind straight away and deadline is approaching and many pages are still pending.
