Non concordo con il collega che ritiene di poter omettere il "duly" (che io traduco "ritualmente"), perchè per il giurista il rispetto del rito processuale è un dogma...ed il fatto che qualcosa si sia svolto seguendo il rito è cosa di non poco conto! :-)
Riguardo al verbo c'è da precisare quanto segue:
il giuramento...
...si presta dinanzi all'autorità giudiziaria
...si deferisce alla controparte
...si riferisce alla controparte che l'aveva precedentemente deferito
