"la cosa" perché non so come hai intenzione di rendere la prima parte della frase, cmq il senso secondo me è quello

mariaki2: a dire il vero quel se+condiz. la stessa Crusca lo ammette, anche se sottende un'ellissi di "è vero che". Insegno italiano e mi sembri ineccepibile, e la traduzione mi piace

Pierluigi Bernardini: come detto nella mia risposta, per quanto suoni un po' strana non è errata perché non trattasi di ipotetica. "while people might notice" non è "if people noticed it". Errore sarebbe stato questo: "se la cosa non passerebbe inosservata"

L'uso dei due condizionali non è da considerarsi sgrammaticato a mio avviso, al più ambiguo, in quanto non si tratta di un vero periodo ipotetico, perché sarebbe:

la gente potrebbe notare la cosa, se la notasse, se ne farebbe comunque una ragione. Ma la "if clause" (se la notasse) in realtà nel nostro testo è sottintesa, non presente.

Ciò non toglie di poterlo rendere così:
"sebbene la gente possa accorgersene,..."
