| English term or phrase: subconstruction | Hello everyone!
I'm so sorry to bother you, but I'm having a little bit of a trouble translating this sentence I found in a linguistic article about English dative-movement (a.k.a., ditransitive phenomena):
"One of our maximal subconstructions will be distinguished from the other two by syntactic, as well as semantic, behavior, thus yielding only two maximal subconstructions distinguished by semantics alone."
I have translated it as follows:
"Dalle altre due sovrastrutture se ne distingue una terza che si differenzia da queste ultime sia sintatticamente, sia semanticamente, sia per il suo comportamento, lasciando in questo modo due massime sovrastrutture distinte solo dal punto di vista semantico."
But I have some doubts about the term "subconstruction", because I wanted to translated it as "sottostruttura", but I don't think it is an Italian word: I think I just made it up from the English original word (in other words, a calque).
Thank you very much for your help and have a wonderful evening! |
