this is a sentence taken from a book about linguistics. What would the Italian be for 'gatekeepers'

For example, there is the well-known phenomenon of 'blinding with science' whereby a professional tries to maintain control and exert power over a lay person thus representing thenselves as experts and the gatekeepers of knowledge.
