English term or phrase: branching and pruning

To this day, Johnson & Johnson consciously encourages branching and pruning. It tries lots of new things, keeps those that work, and quickly discards those that don't. It stimulates variation by fostering a highly decentralized environment and encourages individual initiative and allows people to experiment with new ideas.

Explanation:
a mio avviso il secondo verbo si riferisce al fatto che licenzia le persone improduttive e secondo me il concetto va espresso, come l'idea della diversificazione, dell'iniziativa privata e della creatività, in quanto entrambi i verbi anticipano ciò che viene spiegato dopo.

Non sarei letterale fossi in te.. soprattutto se è un testo che presenta l'azienda e vuole avere un impatto positivo sul lettore. Vista l'intera frase, direi che l'azienda promuove continuamente la creazione di nuovi prodotti (spazio alle idee ecc..) ma elimina anche quelli che non hanno dimostrato di funzionare davvero.
