| Note from asker to answererGrazie! Nel contesto specifico "trinciato" o "trinciato sciolto" andava bene. In generale però è preferibile mantenere la terminologia inglese, che i fumatori di pipa, a quanto pare, conoscono perfettamente.

"cross-cut" a taglio filamentoso.
In Italia i nomi sono molto diversi: taglio fine, taglio grosso, a scaglie, ...
I due link dovrebbero essere di qualche utilità. Non sono un fumatore, nè tantomeno un intenditore.

CURLY-CUT: Taglio a rondelle, praticato su foglie di tabacco attorcigliate. Il filamento risulta a spirale.
CUT: Taglio. Importante per la combustione. Le foglie, generalmente in forma di lembi (scostolate e conseguentemente divise in due), vengono tagliate in vari modi, classificabili come segue:
1) DA FOGLIA SINGOLA: A) Striscioline, di varia lunghezza, a taglio largo (circa 2 mm), medio (1 mm), fine (0.5 mm per sigarette). Es.: mixture inglesi e alcuni tipici americani come il crimp-cut. B) Scaglie di varia dimensione, ottenute con taglio o battitura, come il granulare e il picadura.
2) DA FOGLIE PRESSATE: A) Barrette come il flake inglese (sliced plug per gli americani) che viene confezionato in blocchetti o già sbriciolato (ready-rubbled). B) Rondelle ricavate da una treccia di tabacco come il curly-cut.
