Generalmente viene utilizzato la chirurgia della mammella.

La biopsia può essere effettuata chirurgicamente oppure mediante ago (agobiopsia). La biopsia chirurgica richiede una procedura in due tempi: il posizionamento all'interno della mammella di un piccolo filo-guida (viene posto dal radiologo sotto guida mammografica)
