Secondo me è improprio il testo originale. Mi risulta che il termine più comune sia 'upper esophageal sphincter' da cui l'acronimo UES. In alternativa porzione/segmento esofageo superiore

Con il termine 'esofago cervicale' s'intende la testa dell'esofago, mentre con il termine 'sfintere esofageo superiore' si indica l'apparato sfinteriale posto tra l'esofago cervicale e l'ipofaringe che si oppone al passaggio di aria dalle vie aeree superiori verso l'esofago e al reflusso del contenuto esofageo nella faringe e nelle vie aeree
