Some physicians consider SVT an integral part of VTE, together with DVT and PE. The extent of thrombus seen during * U/S * investigation in the superficial vein is many times, much greater than clinically presumed. The extent of SVT seen on U/S is not only larger in the superficial vein, but the thrombus often continues to the deep venous system through perforating veins and/or via sapheno-femoral (SFJ) or sapheno-popliteal junctions (SPJ).
