I perfectly understand the meaning of the term
(Penalties are imposed for undesirable elements
contained in concentrate’s that increase the smelter’s cost. There are
no standard ‘rejection limits’ for the penalty elements, however
‘dirtier’ concentrates can only be sold for lower returns than cleaner
concentrates. A short list of common penalty elements: antimony,
arsenic, fluorine, mercury and zinc or lead in copper conc’s.)
but I cannot find an exact translation into Italian.
The closest term I find in this context is "elementi indesiderati".

Asker: Effettivamente, impurità non è corretto in questo contesto perché a volte questi elementi minori (anche se sono impurità) possono addirittura aumentare il valore del giacimento (ad esempio, Nickel e Cromo come impurità nei giacimenti di Ferro ne migliorano la qualità per gli acciai), mentre in questo caso si tratta di elementi penalizzanti, o soggetti a penali, cioè a una riduzione del prezzo pagato, perché creano problemi di estrazione.
