Anche in questo caso sarebbe necessario maggiore contesto. A quanto capisco dalla breve frase riportata dovremmo essere nella fase finale della produzione di sigarette, cioè all'uscita della macchina mettifiltro. Questa macchina è costituita essenzialmente da un insieme di tamburi (grandi rulli) in sequenza e ha la funzione di applicare i filtri alle doppie sigarette che escono dalla maker. Su questa macchina vengono effettuati anche i controlli di qualità e il tambuto in questione consente anche di prelevare dei campioni. Non escludo però che quel "rod" faccia riferimento alla sigarette ancora senza filtro. La traduzione suggerita funziona comunque in entrambi i casi
