- Clean the Charge Scorotron and Transfer Corotron.
Description: A wire in the printer mechanism which carries a very high voltage to generate an electrostatic charge on a nearby surface, such as photoreceptor or sheet of paper. There are several corotrons in most printers. The high voltage in corotrons ionizes the air surrounding the corotron and generates ozone gas as a by-product.
The corona is a wire within a metal enclosure which sits very close to the drum and is attached to a high voltage power supply. When the corona is charged the air becomes charged with ions and or electrons. These particles charge the drum surface. Another device called a scorotron, is a special kind of corona which is responsible for controlling the electrostatic charge.
