Tech/Engineering - Petroleum Eng/Sci / reactors | | English term or phrase: spading | An operation to be carried out on pipes. I know what blanking/blinding is, but what about spading?
"9.1. Typical tasks for which BA should be considered include the following:
Blinding or spading the isolation piping;
Removing the reactor manway door/cover;
Gas testing of the reactor;
Visual inspection into the reactor through the open manway;"
(BA=breath apparatus).
According to wikipedia: "In the oil and chemical process industries, a spade is a round piece of metal with a small tab that is placed in between two pipe flanges to give positive isolation from the centre; usually to prevent cross contamination between fluids or to allow work on the line. The name comes from the shape: a little like a garden spade. The small tab lets one see that the spade is in place." |
