"ISOLATION WITH BLOCK VALVES
6.1. Air, hydraulic, or electrically operated valves are not generally acceptable for isolation. Subject to the restrictions below, If no manual isolation means is available and one of these valves must be used, operating practices and/or a specially developed site procedure shall describe the means that will be used to ensure that type of valve cannot be operated, and require that such means be used for isolation. PLC controlled valves shall only be allowed to be used when isolation from the PLC can be proven.
Control valves with minimum stops are not acceptable as isolation devices.
Non-return or check valves are not acceptable as isolation devices.
Air-to-close valves are not acceptable as Energy Isolating Devices.
Hydraulically driven valves without position control locking system are not acceptable as Energy Isolating Devices.
Pressure relief valves/devices are not acceptable as Energy Isolating Devices." |
