English term or phrase: "The Nineties: what the **** was that all about?"

Dear colleagues,
this is the title of a book I really enjoyed, and my question is: how would you translate it, keeping the same tone?
(You can use "cavolo" in your suggestions...:-))

Ovviamente sono d'accordo con Lietta: ho messo "cavolo" solo perchè concesso dal poster.

Grazie a tutti, questo sito mi sta diventando simpatico, invece che sgridarmi per il 'riferimento fallico' lo staff mi ha appena rimproverato perchè non ho non ho ancora guadagnato kudoz, se avrò bisogno farò un kudoz raising party...

ho tradotto 'ci era successo' per interpretare la meraviglia dello scrittore ad un decennio che lui ha vissuto, senza capirlo bene.

Asker: Grazie, mi diverte che ci si concentra tutti su f***, ma la mia curiosità principale era su tutto il resto, per come è articolata la frase. E' tipo un mio amico che dice 'ma che stra... significa tutta questa c... di roba' mi spiego? :-)

Asker: Io sceglierei sofiablu solo per i commenti...!! lascio ancora aperta la questione, magari continuiamo a divertirci! comunque rivedendo l'intro al libro credo intendesse "Gli anni '90: di che cazzo si trattava esattamente?"

Asker: Non vorrei essere ripetitiva, ma siccome a tradurre 'fuck' ci arriviamo tutti, era il resto che mi interessava... E poi raramente la parola italiana la puoi scrivere o pubblicare quà e là. Anche nel libro inglese è F**K...
