English term or phrase: qualified
Context: a forceful statement was made over a century ago by a literary critic. 'Surely, the statement would have to be qualified today, over a century later. Or not?'

My attempt: Certo, tale affermzaione andrebbe riformulata oggi, a distanza di oltre un secolo. Oppure no?

Contesto in senso cronologico.
Naturalmente la traduzione dipende dal testo precedente, che è importante e io non conosco. Faccio per dire, se l'intenzione di chi scrive è di criticare l'eccesso di perentorietà in assoluto (a prescindere) oppure che lo si deve fare tenendo conto che oggi, "passata molta acqua sotto i ponti" va per forza mitigato.
