Credo che sia un'impostazione per applicare la compressione JPEG mantenendo nitido il testo nero.
In genere la compressione JPEG non è indicata per documenti con testo, perché il testo perde definizione (vedi link sotto dove lo spiegano in dettaglio). Penso quindi che con questa opzione (aggiunta alle opzioni standard di compressione JPEG: alta, media e bassa) venga applicata una compressione JPEG molto leggera o in qualche modo calibrata, tale da non compromettere la qualità del testo.
Se dovessi tradurre questa opzione in un sw per scanner, userei "Ottimizza testo nero", o "Ottimizza per testo nero". In assenza di un glossario con le opzioni sw dello scanner di cui si riportano le specifiche, userei un'espressione generica tipo "ottimizzata per testo nero" (riferito a "compressione") |

Black letter, also known as Gothic script or Gothic minuscule, was a script used throughout Western Europe from approximately 1150 to well into the 17th century. It continued to be used for the German language until the 20th century. Fraktur is a notable script of this type, and sometimes the entire group of faces is known as Fraktur. Black letter is sometimes called Old English, but it is not to be confused with the Old English language, despite the popular, though mistaken, belief that the language was written with black letter. The Old English (or Anglo-Saxon) language predates black letter by many centuries, and was itself written in the insular script.
