superior: non è capo/laboratorio/reparto/etc perché è troppo specifico - non è superiore perché lo è troppo poco (e poi non è mica dostoevskij :) - indovina cos'è :)

gli itinerant lecturers invece erano i "... girovaghi", in sostanza dei tipi che mostravano le varie attrazioni e fenomeni di baraccone alle fiere itineranti, showmen insomma :) - la traduzione importa poco, mi arrangio facilmente, ma sono curiosa del motivo per cui l'autore usa il termine lecturer che, per quanto ne so io, o è del tutto inappropriato o è una gran bella presa per i fondelli dei "veri" lecturer (i soliti accademici)

opterei per "superiore" che e' vago almeno quanto l'inglese
