come suggerito nelle altre risposte, di solito "to give up the struggle" vuol dire rinunciare a lottare, arrendersi.
Tuttavia, siccome sembra parlare di una Miss CC, mi domando se abbia un doppio senso del tipo "avrei rinunciato ad essere scapolo"...
In questo caso "per cui avrei fatto un'eccezione", o "avrei rinunciato al celibato" potrebbe essere la soluzione più appropriata.
Può essere una cosa fattibile, dal contesto?
