English term or phrase: Trying to make a go of it
Ciao a tutti!

Potreste aiutarmi con questo idiom per cortesia? Capisco che significa "fare un tentativo// provare a", ma non riesco a inserirlo nel contesto.

Ecco il contesto:

"I wanted to tell her story because I realized that I could multiply the story of this woman again and again in so many of the people I had come to know in Haiti. I saw them TRYING TO MAKE A GO OF IT, and I saw how much they had settled into the routine of their lives."

To make a go of it is to try to make the business successful, to make something succeed, usually by working hard.

Hello,
Similarly, it means to 'make the best of things' - out of a situation that is not exactly the way you'd like it to be. In other words, to be positive, to try and make it successful and/or to have a good time.
