XXX is based on metropolitan Wave Division Multiplex (WDM) technology or “optical” networking. WDM allows multiple wavelengths to be transmitted over one ***pair of fibres***. There are two fundamental types of WDM available, CWDM (Coarse WDM) and DWDM (Dense WDM). CWDM will provide up to eight bidirectional wavelengths per fibre pair and DWDM up to thirty-two. Wavelengths may often be referred to as lambda or “colours”, as each wavelength operates at a different light frequency. The current platform of choice for XXX is the YYY series equipment. The platform comes in two variants, the 5100 and 5200 and for simplicity we use the general term OM5000 when talking about this technology. On occasion we have used an alternative vendor but these installations are approved via our bespoke approval process.

Each XXX solution is designed to meet a specific customer’s requirement and provides flexible, private networking to meet the most demanding of corporate needs. The presales stage of any XXX bid is critical to ensure that the customer’s requirements are understood and that the XXX design meets these requirements. Each solution is a private network built on dedicated **fibre pairs*** and electronics. This ensures that strict security, resilience and redundancy parameters can be met.

When delivering a new HSS solution or the current XXX solution is completely full i.e. the ***fibre pair*** is supporting the maximum possible wavelengths and all wavelengths are fully utilised, the standard lead-time for installing the new solution should be improved to 45 working days. An XXX solution is considered new when new fibre pairs and new OM5000 Nodes must be deployed even if the new Nodes are delivered for the same customer and to the same addresses as previous Nodes.
