AMPIEZZA DI BANDA

E' il termine di riferimento al quantitativo di dati che possono essere inviati tramite un determinato sistema di comunicazione in un tempo definito. In genere,più grande risulta l'ampiezza di banda e più alta è la veolcità nel trasferimento dei dati da un punto all’altro tramite Internet.

Anche se sono certa che avrei potuto lasciare intradotto con overhead, preferisco in genere tradurre il più possibile e la tua proposta è quella che più mi è piaciuta. ah, ovviamente, overhead si usa molto anche in italiano, ma io sono per tradurre sempre quando è possibile, anche perché non è detto che il lettore sappia cosa significa overhead!

  -> chi li usa sì, ma mi pare che il testo sia pubblicitario-divulgativo, non per un uso tecnico. Sprechi è una traduzione a portata della comprensione media.
agree  Monica Alpi: lo lascerei però al singolare "spreco di banda". Eventualmente tra parentesi aggiugnerei overhead.

Explanation:
That's simply "low bandwidth", you have totally lost the concept of "overhead", that is the increment in bandwith that is required by protocols and other error-correcting systems to improve transmission quality.

In the sentence referenced in the selected answer, "bandwidth overheads imposed by TCP, IP and ethernet protocol layers", it is obvious that the IP and other protocols impose an overhead, and extra-load, an increase of data and thus bandwidth, to the one that is strictly required to transmit the same information with a simpler protocol, or without any at all.
For example a simple voice channel with PCM coding has a bandwidth of 64Kb/s, but when you add all the headers, error corrections, an other extra loads requiered by IP, the bandwidth increases to 80Kb/s, so we have a 16Kb/s of "bandwidth overhead" imposed by the specific protocol used.
