Ciao a tutti,
in un libro per bambini fatto a mo' di enciclopedia degli animali trovo la seguente frase:

"The flight feathers on a tawny owl's wings have a soft, frayed fringe allowing it to glide silently through the night".

Non so bene come si dica in gergo quella 'frayed fringe': frangia logora? frangia sfibrata?

Il volo degli strigiformi è reso silenzioso dal piumaggio più morbido e lanoso, rispetto a quello dei rapaci diurni, che soffoca i suoni prodotti dal battito alare. Ciò è ottenuto anche grazie ad una peculiare sfrangiatura su ciascuna penna primaria esterna che attenua l’attrito con l’aria.
