English term or phrase: if they do not have much skin in the game
This phrase follows "I find a lot of people do not take anything seriously," I think "game" means financial transaction. But I can't understand "have much skin".
Is this a kind of figurative words? Does this mean goose bumps?

"skin in the game" でグーグルすると、説明がいろいろ出てきますが、あの warren buffet 氏の言葉のようですね。

http://www.answers.com/topic/skin-in-the-game?cat=biz-fin

A term coined by renowned investor Warren Buffett referring to a situation in which high-ranking insiders use their own money to buy stock in the company they are running.

Investopedia Says:
The idea behind creating this situation is to ensure that corporations are managed by like-minded individuals who share a stake in the company. Executives can talk all they want, but the best vote of confidence is putting one's own money on the line just like outside investors!

*** 例えば、ミューチャルファンドのマネージャが、自分が運用しているファンドに投資していないとか、あるいは会社上層部のメンバーなのに自社株を持っていないとしたら、そのファンドに対する信用度とか、会社での発言権も落ちるでしょうね。それと似た状態が、”People don't take you seriously if you don't have a lot of skin in the game" でしょうね。もしかしたら、higher-ranking insider 以外の人や、別の状況も含めて広義の解釈になるかもしれませんが、原意はこれだそうです。

skins はお金のことだと知っていたのですが、skin in the game は私も知りませんでした。

agree  Timothy Miller: This makes the most sense, although I too have never heard of this phrase, although I did know that "skins" can refer to money.
