The heads of Moses and God are... much the same. The medieval beholder knew in any case that physical likeness was not important.... Matchinng figures to external nature was not a criterion for medieval art, lest of all in respect of individual comparisons.

Explanation:
external natureは、「自然」だとおもいます。
西洋の中世美術、特に絵画は、イコンに代表されるようにリアリズムではないですね。
この作品も自然（人間を含める）を忠実に描写する事には殆ど関心が払われていません。

Explanation:
モーゼも神も中世の人々からしてみれば同一体であることを分かっていたため、身体的な類似性は重要ではなく、外見的に一致している姿はあ中性の美術においては基準のひとつではなかった、という意味ではないでしょうか。つまり、神もモーゼも同格出会ったということだと思います。

とは、要するにこういうことだと思うんですが。。。

中世期の絵画描写では、一目でこれが神でありこれが人間のモーゼであるというように外観を描写することは必要な基準ではなく、もちろん個人差を表現することなど全く考えなくて済むことだった。

。。。とにかく図解の手段のひとつとして。どういう性質の人物であったということをいちいち細かく説明する必要はないと考えていたのではないでしょうか？。。。まったくの憶測ですが。
