English to Japanese translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Computers: Software / database
English term or phrase: walk the database
(Software) walks the database and sends XXX to YYY.
という風に出てきます。意味はこのソフトウェアがデータベースの中を散策するかのように探しまわる、ということだと思いますが、これで良いでしょうか。その場合決まった日本語というのはあるのでしょうか。

よろしくお願いします。

Japanese translation:データベースを走査
Explanation:
It means that the software will scan the database, bit by bit or entry by entry. ALC has an entry for this term. Google has many hits as well.

I don't think there is any real meaning difference between 'walk' and 'scan' . IT people like to invent new words and terms to make their jobs interesting.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks, Kurt. Is there any technical difference between walk and scan, or are they just different expressions for the same thing?
