English term or phrase: Kurosu
Hi,
I am looking for the japanese characters of the word 'kurosu'.
Does this word mean
i. murder or kill
ii. cross
(or both)? And is クロス the accurate representation of kurosu? It is to be engraved on a gift, and therefore I don't want to be writing the wrong thing. Any help would be much much appreciated.
Thank you very much
lena
Japanese translation:殺す
Explanation:
The word you're looking for is
"Korosu", not "Kurosu".

Korosu means to murder or kill someone.
Here it is in Japanese writing.

Kanji: 殺す
Katakana: コロス
Hiragana: ころす

Warning! I would be extremely careful with this word, as it is not to be used lightly. In Japanese, "korosu" can be used as a rather severe cursing word used during a conflict. In other words, it is rather bad language. Are you sure you want to write something like this (i.e "I'm going to murder you") on a gift to someone?

Please consider.

Good luck.

kurosu
クロス or 十字架

Explanation:
i. This word does not mean "murder or kill". That is "korosu", or 「殺す」.
ii. Is クロス the accurate representation of kurosu?
Yes, as long as I can tell.

(However, the Japanese translation 「十字架」 is also used. As you can imagine, while this is a perfect word for it, it is kind of old-fashioned (or not a term preferred in the fashion industry.). I mean a teenage girll who bought a cross motif pendant would say、 「クロスのペンダント買っちゃった」rather than 「十字架のペンダント買っちゃった」。)

I hope this helps.

kurosu
黒酢

Explanation:
“Kurosu” can be 黒酢, special sort of rice vinegar, which is said to be very healthy and relative expensive. It can be sent to somebody who cares health as a gift.

You shouldn't hesitate to ask your client in order to avoid a fatal mistake.
