これについては、意見が分かれるかと思いますが、私が以前、翻訳者として在籍していた世界中に支社がある某大手電機メーカーでは、技師長クラスを「chief engineer」、主任技師クラスを「senior engineer」、技師クラスを「engineer」、技術者クラスの一般技術職を「technician」と使い分けておりました。また、その報酬はtechnicianのほうが格下でした。さらに、英米人技術者は、肩書きで呼ばれるとき「engineer」と呼ばれるのを好みます。それはちょうど日本人技術者が改まった席で「技術屋」ではなく「技師」と呼ばれるのと似ております。 |
