Portugal. Law No. 36/98 of July 24 1998 on mental health. (Internet address below in English)
This Law, which repeals Law No. 2118 of 3 April 1963 (see IDHL, 1964, 15, 455), comprises the following Chapters: I. General provisions (containing the following Articles: 1. Objectives; 2. Protection and promotion of mental health; 3. General principles of mental health policy; 4. National Council of Mental Health; and 5. Patients' rights and duties); II. Compulsory detention (divided into the following Sections: I. General provisions (Articles 6-9); II. Rights and duties (Articles 10-11); III. Detention (Articles 12-21); IV. Emergency admission (Articles 22-27); V. Special cases (Articles 28-29); VI. Common provisions (Articles 30-35); VII. Nature and costs of proceedings (Articles 36-37); and VIII. Monitoring Commission (Articles 38-44)); and III. Final and transitory provisions (Articles 45-49).
