I don't get what this mean, "When it all when it went a bit The Face"

The entire sentence is below,
"It’s a record from that period of A Certain Ratio, Young Marble Giants…pre-Sade and Everything But The Girl when it all when it went a bit [UK style bible] The Face."

I don't get it gramatically and sementically.

While I honestly do not understand the context here, and I don't know what the The Face is (a magazine? a band?), the author is making a statement about pre-Sade and Everything But The Girl music style, and saying that it is "like the Face" or "leaning towards the style of The Face" or "as described in The Face/as popularized by The Face (if The Face is a magazine)". So he is describing the trends of the music at the time, saying it was like "The Face".

Thanks a lot. I think your answer does make sense in that context. Since The Face was a magazine and a trend of fashion and music in that period, pre-Sade and Everything But The Girl's sounds could become like "The Face" which, I guess, means "stylish" or "cool" sounds.

I'm not sure if I could cut out the second "when it" from the phrase. How about "when it all went a bit The Face"? The Face was a kind of magazines for teenagers in England that included about fashion and music. Also A Certain Ratio, Young Marble Giants, pre-Sade and Everything But The Girl were famous music bands (goups) in 1980s in England. I think "when it all went a bit" means "when it all appeared a part of The Face". Does it make sense?
