English term or phrase: having a little pokey
ヴェルヴェット・アンダーグラウンドに関する話題です。

The British press was always like that. *I'm just having a little pokey* "Oh, look, The Velvets are re-forming and they didn't even bother to ask anybody."

Explanation:
This is a colloquial way of saying "having a poke around", "investigating", "looking into", "trying to find out what someone is doing", "prying".

If it was in quotation marks (for the press) "I'm just having a little pokey" could mean "poke at", which means something like "dig at", "taking a shot at", "insulting", or "making fun of" and to a lesser extent "trying to provoke".

Thank you very much for your help. At first your answer doesn't seem to fit here, but later I changed my mind and "調べている" may work. Thank you again.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you for your help, David. But I'm afraid it doesn't seem to fit here, as Yumico points out. Let me give more specific background. The situation is Velvet Underground reformed for the first time in years and they will start European tour. Here is more preceeding sentences: John Cale says, "We're going to attract a lot of ambulance chasers, people who want to see us fail. I read this in England which said: "Here are some bands who shouldn't even think about re-forming." We were one of them. The British press was alwyas like that.... thank you again for your further advice.

Asker: Thank you for you suggestion, again, Daid. Now I'm beginning to understand. John Cale finds some critical comments about his band, so he wants to know more about how other newspapers or press are reviewing the band. Do you think I'm right?
