愛 is the noun form of love, and it is used frequently in the bible.

In one Japanese Bible that I found online, 1 John 4:16 reads as follows:

"私たちは,私たちに對する神の愛を知り,また信じています.神は愛です.愛のうちにいる者は神のうちにおり,神もその人のうちにおられます."

The King James Bible renders that verse this way:

"And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him."
